ANCHORAGE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESCUE RESPONSE – ALASKA

Anchorage Fire Department’s Cook Inlet Water Rescue Team vessel; NAIAD / SOLAS model 8.0.

Our surface rescue response area is the upper Cook Inlet. Gale Force wind & sea state, 10 knot currents and 35 feet tidal ranges are common operational conditions. Constantly changing shoals and hidden channels are normal hazards to navigation.

The vessel AFD selected is the 8 meter SOLAS with twin 200 hp engines. Professional and military personnel comment often on the quality of Anchorage Fire Department’s asset. I have been the AFD / WRT lead for 21 years employed with the Municipality of Anchorage & I would like to say that the SOLAS is the very best vessel for working this area. The boat has performed dependably and met all the demands required since 1994.This asset can take a lot tougher conditions than our human resources. The quality of engineering, construction, maintenance and service we receive is another significant factor for our safe operations. Our vessel has excellent range, handling and maneuverability. The SOLAS asset exceeds our requirements for safe deployment and recovery.

We at AFD demand a vessel that meets this criteria and our SOLAS is the right boat. I have total confidence our boat will perform properly whenever we slip the mooring lines.

Don’t compromise “Save Our Lives At Sea” criteria.
